The focus of this class is to familiarize the students with painting with oils. There are a lot of misconceptions about oil paint, such as it is too hard or too toxic. This class will explore and dispel these myths to give students confidence and knowledge to use this medium to their full potential safely. Attention will also focus on using a limited palette of 3 primary colors plus white where we will learn color mixing and value relationships. We will tone our canvas’ and transfer our images onto the toned canvas (no drawing skills needed). Students will learn about the importance of blocking in, values, and edges through a step-by-step process to achieve a completed oil painting. Students should have an 8” x 10” painting completed at the end of the workshop.
