The Art Association of Oswego is holding an art show entitled “Solarity” in the Timothy McHenry Gallery (upstairs). The artwork for the show uses only natural materials, sunshine, water, and watercolor paints to create unique compositions.
The event is from June 7, 2014 to July 6, 2014 and a public reception will be held on June 7, 2014 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The inspiration for this show is a result of the vision and excitement of long time Oswego resident and artist Bert Leighton. Leighton retired from Oswego City District and in retirement she and her husband Bill have continued their love of painting taking workshops, winning awards, traveling, and sharing their work with others.
Leighton solar watercolor inspiration began with a watercolor workshop she took from Maxine Masterfield in Florida. Leighton began to experiment on her own and thus began a new approach to her art creations using natural materials, sunshine, water and watercolor paints. She is passionate about this technique and loves what’s she does. The Solarity show will exhibit many her works.
There will also be several other local artists she has inspired that will have solar artwork work to share. Participating this year will be Charlotte Arcadi, Bonnie Bergen, Mary Ann Donahue, Dr. Michael Nupuf, Mrs. Edie Nupuf, and Bill DeMott. Each participant has created an artist statement reflecting their views about solar watercolor painting.
For those interested there will be two workshops in June to explore this watercolor painting technique. Hopefully with interest there will be a continued solar watercolor group meeting to share insights, successes, and failures with this unique form of artistic expression.
