Art Instructor Signup

The Art Association of Oswego is seeking proposals on a continual basis for fine art and fine craft classes to be taught at our facility for adults and/or children. We have a ceramic studio, printmaking studio, and general classroom. Mediums can include (but are not necessarily limited to): ceramics, printmaking, painting, drawing, stained glass, digital photography, jewelry, leatherwork, wood carving, and more.

Basics:

  • Instructors are paid as independent contractors. We will report your annual earnings to you and to the IRS each January on a 1099-MISC form if you’ve earned $600 or more from us during the calendar year. No income taxes are withheld or remitted on your behalf.
  • Stipend rates range from $20/hr – $35/hr, limited to instructional/class time, depending on the number of students taking your class.
  • Our typical classes range from 1-3 hours on one day to 12-18 hours over several days/weeks.
  • Materials can be supplied by AAO, instructor, or participants. The AAO has some materials on hand for use in classes.
  • You should submit your proposal at least 4 weeks before you anticipate beginning your class; longer if possible, to allow adequate planning, publicity, and registration time.
  • We will take care of online publicity for your class on our website, our social media (Facebook & Instagram), and via our newsletters. We will also try to get your classes listed in local newspapers and on iHeartOswego. You are welcome/encouraged to share our publicity on your own website/social media. We don’t typically do posters for our classes, but you are welcome to make/distribute your own, subject to AAO’s review/approval prior to distribution. The AAO must be listed on all publicity; we can provide a logo file to you if you intend to print posters.
  • Note: If we ever run into a situation where we get similar proposals from different instructors, those who have worked with us before or for a longer period of time will be given priority.

Cost: tuition = $7/hour for members / $10/hour for non-members, + materials & tool use (if any). If tools/materials are not provided, please list what students should bring with them or note that a list of required supplies will be provided by the instructor when you register.

This will be used for publicity on our website and in print media. Please let us know who made the example so we can attribute credit appropriately.

Class participants must pre-register online and pre-pay in order to attend class. We need a minimum of 4 participants for a class to happen (unless the instructor is willing to take a pro-rated stipend). Stipend rates: • 4-5 students = $25 per class hour • 6-7 students = $30 per class hour • 8-9 students = $35 per class hour • 10+ students = $40 per class hour • Fewer than 4 students = $7/student per class hour (i.e. 2 students = $10/hr) – class held at instructor’s discretion. Classroom instructors are paid as independent contractors subject to 1099-MISC reporting to the IRS (not as employees). The AAO does not withhold any taxes or provide any guarantees for income. You will need to fill out a federal form W-9 with your name, address, and tax ID as reported on your tax returns if we do not already have one on file for you. Your tax ID can be either your social security number or an employer identification number if you have one. The AAO can accept a variety of payments for class fees: • cash, check, or money order can be paid in-house or mailed to our PO Box. • Electronic payments can made using PayPal from our website. Materials fees are paid to whomever provides the supplies, whether AAO or instructor.
